Essel Mining & Industries Limited (EMIL)  is one of the largest private coal miners in India with coal mining operations in the states of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. it is also the largest private sector mine-developer-cum-operator (MDO) operating in India.

Currently EMIL operates two coal mines under MDO business — Bhubaneswari Coal Mine and Rajmahal Coal Mine, through its subsidiaries Bhubaneswari Coal Mining Limited (BCML) in Odisha and Rajmahal Coal Mining Limited (RCML) in Jharkhand states respectively. EMIL Operated, Bhubaneswari Open Cast Project (OCP) under Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. (MCL)is currently the largest coal mine of the state. With Bhubaneswari OCP, EMIL became India’s first MDO.

EMIL has recently bagged 3 new coal MDOs in Amelia, Subhadra and Madan Nagar respectively located in states of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. EMIL is currently developing greenfield commercial coal mining project in Bandha area of Singrauli district in Madhya Pradesh.
