Essel Mining & Industries Limited (EMIL) is amongst India’s largest mining companies functioning since 1950. Starting journey from Iron ore mining in state of Odisha, EMIL became the largest mine-developer-cum-operator (MDO) in the private sector in India.

EMIL previously operated in the iron ore mineral rich Jamda–Koira valley belt in the Sundergarh district of Odisha. We are a pioneer in the Indian mining industry for adoption of modern mining technology in its operations.

EMIL diversified into coal mining business following the Government of India’s decision to invite private participation to bridge the deficit in coal production. EMIL became the first MDO in India when it was awarded the Bhubaneswari open cast project, now the largest coal mine, under Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. (MCL) in Odisha.

Now, EMIL is one of the largest private coal miners in India with mining operations in the states of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. We are MDO operator to two large coal mines of Coal India Limited having cumulative capacity of 45 million tons per annum (MTPA).

In 2019 EMIL acquired mining lease for Bunder Diamond project located in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. The diamond block has estimated capacity 34 million carats of rough diamonds. 

The Iron Ore Beneficiation & Pelletization Plant (IoBP) of EMIL is located in Basantpur, Keonjhar district of Odisha. The IoBP plant comprises of a 1 MTPA Iron Ore Beneficiation plant and a 1 MTPA Iron Ore Pelletization plant based on first of its kind Circular Pelletization Technology (CPT)

EMIL is also a pioneer in manufacturing of world class Noble Ferro Alloys (NFA) and Iron pellets. The Noble Ferro Alloys (NFA) unit is located in Valsad district of Gujarat with a manufacturing capacity of 10,500 Metric Tons Per Annum (MTPA) of different types of NFA.

Our products include coal, vanadium pentoxide, ferro molybdenum (powder & lumps), ferro titanium (lumps), ferro vanadium (powder & lumps) and iron pellets.

EMIL has forayed into renewable energy and at present we have a combined portfolio of 155 MW of solar and wind power. Our motive is to offset our carbon footprint and to harness natural resources to produce green energy.
