The Wind Power Division of Essel Mining & Industries Limited (EMIL) generates green energy from renewable resources. Commissioned in 2004-05, the entire power generated from these windmills is supplied to the power deficit state of Maharashtra. The Wind Power Division has been registered with UNFCCC as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project under the Kyoto Protocol, which entitles the project to get carbon credit revenues for a period of 10 years.
EMIL continues to make concerted efforts in energy conservation by adopting renewable sources of energy to reduce carbon intensity.
EMIL believes that effective and efficient utilisation of natural resources, coupled with responsible environmental consideration, is vital for sustainable development in India. The project was developed to be an important part of sustainable development priorities in India with the objective of climate change mitigation through significant reduction in green house gas (GHG) emissions.
